Lindenhurst's E. W. Bower Elementary School Fights Polio
Amberly Smith and Haily Gustavson certainly have something to smile about...
E. W. Bower School in Lindenhurst, conducted a fund raiser that will help eradicate polio worldwide. The fund raiser was done in conjunction with the Lindenhurst Rotary Club along with other Lindenhurst schools.

Rotarian, Pat Chiodo, was was proud of their fine work and Pat will continue her work in support of the Rotary's Polio Plus Foundation. Great job Pat, thanks to your work we can all hope that these children will be able to look back on the day that they helped end this dreadful disease and the cruel effect it has on so many lives. Bill reports on his first meeting as Lindenhurst's president 2008-2009...
I felt the excitement of the year ahead growing at my first meeting, this past Thursday, that also doubled as our awards ceremony.  I presided over the event with the honor and the joy of what Rotary is all about.  Here's what took place:

1 - Lindenhurst Rotary Club presented checks for four scholarships to deserving students who are off to college.

2 - Lindenhurst Rotary Club presented checks to seven food pantries and recognized their hard work.

3 - I held my first board meeting (on the spot) which resulted in a vote to present a check to Suffolk Literacy for the first time, and also recognized the fine work they are doing.

4 - We also recognized the accomplishments of our members who worked, and continue to work, on our international mission with the Doctors from N. Vietnam.

5 - We had a RYLA speaker that just stole the show... he single-handedly raised community awareness of Rotary and its affect on young leaders.

We had a great buffet lunch and a fellowship finally - it was a great first meeting!

The Rotary Four Way Test - a member test and a way of life:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
