Lindenhurst's E. W. Bower Elementary School Fights Polio
Amberly Smith and Haily Gustavson certainly have something to smile about...
E. W. Bower School in Lindenhurst, conducted a fund raiser that will help eradicate polio worldwide. The fund raiser was done in conjunction with the Lindenhurst Rotary Club along with other Lindenhurst schools.

Rotarian, Pat Chiodo, was was proud of their fine work and Pat will continue her work in support of the Rotary's Polio Plus Foundation. Great job Pat, thanks to your work we can all hope that these children will be able to look back on the day that they helped end this dreadful disease and the cruel effect it has on so many lives. If you would like to donate to this cause please make a donation by clicking here.

Pat works to make students aware of Rotary's polio eratication efforts and kids come up with big money to help! E.W. Bower Elementary did a great job raising funds along with other Lindenhurst Schools.  The Lindenhurst Rotary Club is grateful to all of the students and faculty and was able to express their thanks by adding recognition at the end of the 5th Grade, 2008, Graduation Video

Lindenhurst's Harding Avenue and West Gates Schools take pride in the accomplishments of their students.  Working through the council's, students learned of Rotary's Polio Plus Foundation and conducted fund raisers to help stamp out polio world wide.

The Lindenhurst Rotary Club deeply appreciates the work that the students and Student councils did in making a difference in the life of another person.

Taking their part in putting an end to this awful disease is an accomplishment that will be meaningful for their lives ahead.

Great Job!

The Lindenhurst Middle School
Students (right) together with their Student Council advisors, Ms. Bracht,  Ms. Kissane, Ms. Minucci and Ms Wishniak did an outstanding job working with the Lindenhurst Rotary Club and through their efforts raised a wopping $600.00 in support of the club's Polio Plus Foundation.

The goal is to eradicate polio worldwide and their contribution will surely make a significant difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

Thank you one and all, your hard work is deeply appreciated!

El Salvador

Currently we are in the process of beginning a partnership with the Rotary Club in El Salvador on a project called S.E.W., Salvadoran Enterprises for Women.  This effort, spearheaded by Pat Chiodo is geared toward empowering Salvadoran women in providing for their families through building a buisness of their own.  Fund-raising for this event has begun with the sale of crafts made by these women.  The goal is to continue to fundraise until we have raised the $5000.00 needed to begin a grant application in the hopes of receiving one and a half times that much to assist these women in need.

Vietnam

Plans to ship hospital equipment donated by Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip is in the works. Dermot McGrath on the International  Commitee was instrumental in bringing about this herculean effort. Having seen the condition of the hospital while on a visit to Vietnam, he made connections and was able to aquire desperately needed hospital equipment that was considered obsolete here in America and cutting edge in Vietnam.  This effort will surely result in the saving of so many children's lives.

Past Partnerships

International projects may be started by fellow clubs that look to others in their district for support.  Recently a member of the Rotary club of Babylon,  Stanis Beck, came to us with a request for assistance in a project to build playgrounds in Mexico and a donation from our club to assist Stanis in her goal was submitted.

Rotary International Day at the United Nation

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007 was Rotary International Day at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
